Practical ways to live better on less.
With the holidays just around the corner, now is the time to start thinking about decorations! Shopping for holiday decor on a budget doesn’t necessarily mean sacrificing quality or fun. Plenty of fantastic stores offer great holiday merchandise at affordable prices. Check out a few of my favorite places to get my holiday decor shopping done on a budget!
Home Goods – This home furnishing chain with locations throughout the country, carries a fantastic assortment of holiday decor, all available drastically cheaper than at department stores. Everything you find in this store is offered at a major discount, allowing you to shop for what you want, not the price! The store is currently bustling with several aisles of festive decor. I especially love the large assortment of Nutcrackers, which I collect yearly.
Michael’s – Every crafty person knows that Michael’s is the place to go for unique pieces for your personal creative projects. You can easily decorate your home on a budget and/or make personalized handmade gifts by getting in tune with your crafty side. Don’t know where to start? Join Pinterest – it’s free to sign up and you will be overloaded with endless craft projects. Michael’s is my favorite place to shop for cheap make your own ornament craft projects.
JC Penney’s – A small, yet attractive display of holiday decor rolls out each holiday season. JC Penney’s is the most affordable department store destination for holiday decor especially with special yearly promotions (loved last year’s holiday button promotion) and ongoing coupons (check the newspaper inserts, website, and join the email club). The ornaments and nutcrackers come in all sorts of cute designs at a fraction of the cost of the more pricey department stores.
Christmas Tree Shops – I’m not a huge fan of this retailer during the off season (why don’t they carry holiday merchandise all year?!), however, they carry a nice selection of budget friendly decor and novelty gifts during the holiday season. The gift idea section is perfect for picking up last minute grab bag, office, and Secret Santa presents.
Dollar Tree – Although I wouldn’t choose to decorate my living room with items from Dollar Tree, I do head in each year for their fantastic assortment of festive holiday gift wrap, gift bags, and greeting cards. They have so many cute styles available; who wants to spend $6 on a roll of wrapping paper than lands in the garbage bin?
They also a large selection of festive holiday mugs. Where else can you get a cute Christmas mug for only $1? I also pick up a few novelty decor items like mini snowglobes to attach to my wrapped gifts (everyone loves this small, yet thoughtful gesture!).
Target – Every year, I find at least a few great deals at Target. Last year, I found great deals on Christmas lights, table decor, and festive holiday stocking holders. Target is a great idea for those on a budget, who still want quality, creative decor. On a side note, don’t forget about the large selection of holiday DVDs and Blu-Rays: I always find the best prices on my holiday favorites!
Ikea – Ikea isn’t just for affordable furniture. They also open up a holiday section of the store each year. You will find great prices on holiday ornaments, pillowcases, and other home decor items. The budget friendly ornament selection is great for those who decorate based on color coordination. Don’t forget to sign up for Ikea Family – you will receive a free cup of coffee or tea while you shop!
